Poitin registered her fourth win at Dundalk when landing the Money Back 2nd At Titanbet.co.uk Apprentice Handicap under Robbie Downey.
It might have been different if Andrew Breslin, rider of the runner-up, Carried hadn't lost his whip a couple of furlongs out when looking to assert.
He'd worn a hood before and here in a first-time visor Carried got reeled in by Keith Clarke's Poitin inside the final furlong, and beaten by a length and a quarter.
They were a further two and three parts of a length up on Alnahar in third.
Well-backed on course, Brosnan (10s into 5/1) finished ninth.
"She won this race last year and is in great order, probably the best I've had her all year. She got checked a bit on the bend, and the horse in front was idling," said Clarke.
"I've put her into a two miles amateur handicap next Friday. I got an amateur licence recently and may ride her myself.
"There are about 50 people in the Phoenix Bloodstock Syndicate all together, and ten of them in this mare. They are from all over the country, and the idea we had was to try and get people interested in going racing who otherwise would just stay in a betting shop."
R. Coakley, rider of Sharjah trained by Andrew Slattery, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount moved poorly in the straight and stopped quickly.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Whatever It Takes trained by Niall Madden, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
