Jockey Alan Persse was seen to good effect when getting the fractions spot on on all the way winner Folly Beach in the concluding Horseraces Single Member S.A. Of Greece Handicap.

A 17-race maiden prior to this, the Mark Molloy trained mare appreciated the change of tactics, bowling along in front and never seeing another rival.

Persse set steady fractions before kicking for home off the home bend, catching a few pursuers unaware in the process. Despite looking like being swallowed up as a number of challengers emerged from the chasing pack, Folly Beach found plenty to hold on for a first success.

“Her mother ran in a Goodwood Cup and was a black-type mare. It's been a nightmare to try and get her to switch off, she's just a very keen mare but she's very genuine and she was in very good form so we were hopeful she'd run a big race,” said Molloy.

“It was her first time over two miles. Fingers crossed she can go on from it.

“She has jumped hurdles already, jumps well, and that's the plan but I just thought that her dam is black-type and she's from a nice family so it's nice that she's won on the Flat.”
