Patrickswell gains a 5th win for the Callaghans Patrickswell gained his fifth success for the Callaghan family from Dunleer in County Louth when he got up on the line to short-head Celerina (Mark Enright severely cautioned for the whip) in the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap under Chris Geoghegan (2 day ban for the whip). The grey Iron Mask gelding, equipped with cheek-pieces, led for much of the journey until Herotozero shot on, but the successful six-year-old came home best on the stand's rail to win. Patrickswell was bought by this trainer, Marcus Callaghan for 9,000 Euros at Goffs in November 2007 after winning as a juvenile for Ken Condon. Callaghan suggested afterwards that firm ground is the key to the versatile gelding, a winner from five furlongs up to an extended mile and one. He could turn out again at Sligo on Wednesday over an extended six.
