Patrick Mullins Breaks Record Patrick Mullins rode his 49th winner of the season to break Ted Walsh's post-war record (1976, then counted up over the calendar year) for the number of winners ridden by an amateur in a season when Borrowaddy defied top-weight in the Sean Hughes Memorial Mullingar Park Hotel Handicap Hurdle. Given a patient ride, this 15/2 shot made his ground up easily from the back, he hit the front at the last and stayed on best under pressure to prevail by two and a half lengths from The Bay Lad. Mullins said: "I'm delighted but if Ted had been riding the horses I've been on he'd have had sixty or seventy winners!" The first year Equine Business Student at Maynooth said of Layde Back, the disappointing twos on favourite in the previous event: "He lost his action coming up the straight. He was lame after his last run so maybe it's the same problem again." (EM)
