Tim Doyle's Simply Sideways asserted in good style to land the first division of the mile handicap at Gowran.

The Sir Prancealot filly hadn't been fair away when fifth on three runs last season and broke her maiden at the 11th attempt having slipped to a mark of 48.

Ronan Whelan produced the 10/1 shot to lead passing the furlong pole and she soon settled matters, going on to beat Leviosa by three-and-a-half lengths.

Doyle said:- “She did that nicely and it was a good while coming. She always showed ability so we persevered with her and hopefully it will pay off now.

“I thought she was working very well the last couple of weeks. She’s a bigger, stronger mare and did things right today.

“She could go for something similar in Killarney.”
