Walnut Beach (left) wins under Shane Fitzgerald as Kevin Sexton clings onto Faux Fur © Photo Healy Racing
Pat Flynn has always been a man to follow at his local track and landed the Powerstown Park Beginners Steeplechase with Walnut Beach (7/2).
The 122-rated son of Free Eagle jumped well out in front for Shane Fitzgerald but was strongly pressed by two rivals at the tricky second-last fence where The Shantou King departed. Remaining challenger Faux Fur then got the last all wrong with Kevin Sexton doing remarkably well to cling to her neck but that was her chance gone as Walnut Beach got home by three lengths.
Fynn said: "He always runs a nice race but is a devil on the flat as you can't get him going early in his races. He was left 15 lengths one day at Galway and was only beaten a neck but he throws away races early on.
"Shane said he wasn't doing a stroke in front today but that is great and the conditions of the race suited him."
