Page Turner didn't come up to the mark when pulling up over fences at Limerick at Christmas, but in the words of his trainer, John Joe Walsh "he was 20lbs better off over hurdles than fences so it was worth a cut at this." That gamble paid off as Page Tuner made just about all in the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle under Ambrose McCurtin at Gowran.
"It was Ambrose's first ride as a claiming conditional and he has been based with me for almost ten years," further explained Walsh.
Five to one shot Page Turner was better at the last than favourite, Ice Cool and that helped as he stayed on gamely for a one length win. Another Rattler was just three parts of a length back in third, whilst there was a big gap of twenty six lengths to Baroque Style in fourth.
