Outsider Glenstar romps home Outsider of three backers landed a good return as Glenstar (4/1) and Davy Russell recorded a pillar to post success in the two mile beginners’ chase at Tramore. The seven-year-old, wearing a tongue-strap and trained by John Patrick Ryan, put in an exhibition of jumping from the front and was never headed in winning by two and three parts of a length from Gimli’s Rock, the 5/6 favourite. Gimli’s Rock was first off the bridle after jumping three out. He rallied for Tommy Treacy after the last but stayed on too late to alter the result. Audrelles Lad (7/4) was last of the three under Sean McDermott, beaten seven and three parts of a length in total. “He’s only in seven weeks. He’s a gorgeous horse, but I could never get him right last year. Being a Revoque I thought he would want quick ground,” John Ryan said. “He’s a proper horse and I always believed in him. He ran some good races behind the likes of Bog Warrior and Mount Benbulben and he was third behind Kid Cassidy at the Punchestown Festival. “I think the other two are more hurdlers. My fella is from a good jumping family from the family of Large Action. “I think he’ll be very good over fences. Davy gave him a very good ride and he won a shade cosily in the end.” Royal Choice was a significant non-runner as he was coughing. (on course reporting by Donal Murphy)
