Opposites Attract got favourite backers off to a flier in Down Royal with a decisive win in the opening maiden hurdle.

The 15/8 favourite stayed on to deliver his challenge at the second last under Conor Maxwell, and soon led.

He stuck to his guns well to come in by eight lengths from 20/1 shot Outside The Ring Lily's Gem was a further half a length away in third at 16/1.

Dermot McLoughlin said: "He's improving from every run and getting a bit stronger which you like to see. Conor just said he was always happy with him on the bridle. They went a nice gallop today and at the top of the hill he was happy.

"I'd say he would probably want nicer ground, he's a big galloper. He wants further and he's a nice horse."
