Ongenstown scores for Callaghan Ongenstown Lad (5/1) took the spoils in the A.J Welding Handicap Hurdle for trainer Gillian Callaghan with Keith Donoghue aboard. The lightly race 7yo, was never too far off the pace and found a gap between runners going to the last. He then soon disputed the lead and led on the run-in, staying on best to score by four lengths at the line. Two runs back, on his comeback run after over a year off the track, the son of Bach won at Ffos Las at 20/1 in Novice Hurdle. He since ran a nice race at Down Royal finishing just over five lengths fourth to Soldier Bay. Seancill Oir at 12/1 finished second with the second reserve Sean Airgead just a neck behind in third at 7/1. Riotman put in a career best performance to complete the placings a further seven lengths back in fourth at 12/1. Winning trainer Gillian Callaghan's husband Barry, who is an ex-Meath footballer said afterwards: "He improved from his last run, his handicap debut and jumped better. He will go for something similar now and may step up in class a bit."
