Bargain buy and aptly named Fizzy Friday made a winning debut at Dundalk today, landing the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Fillies Maiden on debut for trainer Andy Oliver and jockey Conor Hoban.
The daughter of Royal Applause was bought by Oliver for just 1.000gns last October and today overcame a wide draw in 13 to score a 16/1 upset when beating Midsomer by a length and a quarter.
Oliver was understandably delighted with his work and later commented “she actually has a very good pedigree and is by Royal Applause out of a good mare. I think she was just last in and had no reserve and I stuck my hand up.”
He added “it looked a decent maiden and she was still very green and didn’t really know much but it was well done. Conor gave her a lovely ride - she’s a nice filly and has always shown us a bit; we do think a bit of her and have done.
“She’s a very correct filly and we’ve always thought she had a fair bit to offer and just took our time with her.
“Conor gave her a nice ride, a good education and she should be one with improvement.
“There’s nothing else for her now and we’ll see what transpires from here but she’s certainly a filly we’d hope will improve and the pedigree says she’ll get further as well. Hopefully she is one to look forward to.”
