Come On The Lads gave Ger O'Leary a quick return on investment today, scoring on his second start for his new owner/trainer in Roscommon's opening QuinnBet Claiming Race, before being re-claimed.
Initially claimed for €10,000 by O'Leary having won at Tipperary in May, the four-year-old had recently finished third at Ballinrobe and today, heavily-backed into 5/6 favouritism under Shane Foley, comfortably defeated Edge Of Darkness to bring his recent prizemoney haul to €7,450.
O'Leary reported “he did it nicely there and I'm delighted to get the win. He's very straightforward and once Timourid (leader) folded, it was straightforward from there on.
“Whether he's going to a new home or not now remains to be seen. We can't make plans until we see what happens next.”
What happened next was trainer Gavin Cromwell claimed Come On The Lads for €13,000 - netting O'Leary profit, while runner-up Edge Of Darkness was bought for €10,000 by Ciara Daffy for trainer Danny Howard and fourth-placed Timourid was picked up for €9,000 by Liam Mulryan, for trainer Denis Hogan.
