Racing at Navan this afternoon finally got the green light following a second inspection at the County Meath venue due to issues with frozen ground.

A precautionary inspection was called for 7.30 this morning but, with some areas of the track still causing concern, officials decided to have a second look with the meeting getting the all clear at 10am.

Clerk of the course Paddy Graffin said, “Thankfully we are fit to race. We’ve had the benefit of improved conditions all morning with temperatures currently rising.

“The track staff have a little bit of work to do moving a couple of wings here and there but in general we are perfectly fit to race and safe to race which is paramount and everything that we are about.

“The going is currently soft even though there has been a couple of millimetres of rain overnight. The frost coming out of the ground will ensure that it stays soft.”

The first on a seven-race card gets underway at 12.45pm with the featured €45,000 Navan Handicap Hurdle going to post at 1.55pm.
