Murtagh & Coen bag brace as Poetry impresses Lyrical Poetry ran her rivals ragged at Gowran Park to give Johnny Murtagh and Ben Coen a double on the card. The daughter of Lope De Vega bounced out in front in the extended nine furlong contest and had her rivals at work early in the straight. Coen asked his mount for an effort passing the two pole and she galloped on strongly in the closing stages to post a five-and-a-half length success over 40/1 shot Gradulations. The 9/1 winner had been a promising fourth on her debut at Cork last year before blowing her chance leaving the stalls in stakes company at Dundalk. Murtagh said:- “She was a very nice filly last year. We ran her in a Listed race after a good run first time out in Cork and she was always going to be a better three-year-old. “She’s really developed over the winter and that was pretty impressive. She may get a mile and a half. “I don’t think she needs it soft and I’d say she’ll go on any ground. She’s a good physical. “She loves bowling along and Ben said she was in a lovely rhythm all the way.” (Quotes by Alan Magee)
