Connections of El Fabiolo are hopeful that the star chaser can make a belated seasonal reappearance within the next month having been held up by a training setback.

“All things being well he may return at the Dublin Racing Festival. He’s in full training now and time will tell whether we can get him there in time,” part-owner Simon Munir reported on the Nick Luck Daily Podcast.

When asked about the possibility of stepping up in trip he added, “It’s premature. We haven’t really worried about trip and are just hoping he’s over the setback that he had and that we can get him back for this season.”

The son of Spanish Moon enjoyed a stellar novice chasing campaign with Grade 1 wins at Leopardstown, Cheltenham and Punchestown.

Willie Mullins’ charge recorded another top level victory last term at the Dublin Racing Festival in Leopardstown but was let down by his jumping in two subsequent starts including when pulled up in the Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

El Fabiolo is currently an 8/1 chance with Paddy Power and Betfair for the Champion Chase at Cheltenham in March.
