Bred by Queen Elizabeth II, Aladdins Cave has been a great servant to his Northern Ireland-based owners, the Treasure Hunters Syndicate and the well-bred gelding won his second race over hurdles and his seventh in all when landing the Premier Jump Racing Weekend Handicap Hurdle at Fairyhouse.
Robbie Power rode the eight-year-old, now a dual winner at this venue. The well-backed 3/1 joint favourite got the better of the game front-running mare, Shesonlyahorse in the closing stages, to post a three parts of a length success.
Colm Murphy trains Aladdins Cave and he said: "I'm delighted with that. We've been a long time waiting on it. On his flat form he was entitled to win but he has been frustrating over hurdles.
"We'll see what the handicapper does and we'll try and find something similar. He probably wouldn't want heavy ground. Robbie was very good on him, he was very patient. He doesn't want to hit the front too soon as he has a habit of pulling himself up."
Proprietor of the well-known Killyhevlin Hotel in Enniskillen, Rodney Watson is one of the winning owners and of course he is steeped in racing tradition as his father, Archie, trained French Tan to finish runner-up to L'Escargot in the 1970 Cheltenham Gold Cup. (GC & EM)
