Mootasadir proves a Diamond at Dundalk Mootasadir’s liking for an all-weather surface was confirmed once again as the Hugo Palmer-trained colt landed the Group 3 Recruit Island Diamond Stakes in Dundalk. The son of Dansili was previously successful at Chelmsford, Wolverhampton and Kempton but disappointed twice on turf. The 4/1 chance was switched to challenge on the outer in the straight, and quickened up really well inside the final furlong under Patsy Cosgrave to score by a length and a half. The Ed Dunlop-trained Global Giant completed a 1-2 for the English raiders, with Kalaxana a further length and a half back in third. Cosgrave said, “I rode my first ever winner here when it was a grass track. I’ve only had about five rides here and had three or four winners so it’s been a lucky track for me. “He’s a strange horse as he’s had six runs in total winning four out of four on the all-weather and twice on the grass been tailed off. “He just really needs an artificial surface for some reason. It was a good call by Hugo to step him up from a handicap into this Group 3. “He’s a gorgeous looking individual, and I’m sure Hugo will find another nice race for him.”
