Marc Monaghan produced Darasal Wane with a well time run down the outside to take the TP Walsh Memorial Handicap over seven furlongs, for trainer Paul Deegan.
The 3yo daughter of Captain Rio has been very consistent of late and was recording her second success of the season having won at Roscommon earlier this month. She since ran on Monday over the course where she finish third to Bonnie Acclamation.
Sent off the 3/1 favourite she was waited with towards rear in the early stages of the race. She as then asked to close turning into the straight as she made headway on the outside. She was third over a furlong out but stayed on best to lead close home going on to score by a length. Independent Girl adopted her usual front running tactics and plugged on to finish second at 7/1, while Measured Approval finished a further neck back in third at 7/2.
Winning jockey Marc Monaghan, who is 17 from Neagh and an apprentice to Mick Halford, said afterwards: "That was just my second ride in Listowel. It's good to get a winner for Paul (Deegan). It's been a good year for me, I signed on a year on Wednesday and that was my fourth winner."
Paul Coyle assistant to winning trainer Paul Deegan said afterwards: "She was a bit unlucky here on Monday, she had a lot of weight and the trip was a bit short. She is an improving sort."
Donal Murphy
