Review TRAMORE 13TH OCT

Jim McDaid's Some Legend provided the Former Government Minister with something to cheer about when the gelding landed the two mile maiden hurdle at Tramore today, for the four member Tir Conaill Syndicate.

Ridden by Barry Geraghty, Some Legend chased the leaders before making progress to lead after three out, staying on well to turn over 8/11 favourite Ponmeoath.

Winning trainer Edward O'Grady later mentioned 'he'll probably go chasing next.'

Jockey Andrew McNamara knows how to ride winners and he was on board Michael Hourigan's Just, winner of the Gain Horse Feeds Handicap Chase.

Just raced in mid division before progressing to lead before the second last fence, eventually staying on for an all out short head win over Logical Star.

Hourigan rarely leaves his press conferences without some joke/tip/quip or other and while Just was praised as being a 'gamely little horse', he compared him to his exciting recent Limerick winner, saying 'but he's no Mossbank!'

He added 'Just stays well and should win another handicap.'

Cosmic String's 14/1 win in the opening Sponsor A Race At Tramore Handicap proved to be a major shock in that the winner is trained by Dermot Weld and was returned at 33/1 on the Tote.

The gelded son of In The Wings showed the benefit of four admittedly average previous outings when staying on well for a six length win under Shane Gorey.

The Waterford & Tramore Directors Claiming Race went to well backed 2/1 favourite Gilberto, who stayed on best under Chris Hayes to lead inside the final furlong, for a length and a half success.

Winning trainer Pat Martin later reported 'he won a Leopardstown maiden for Eddie Lynam but developed a back problem which needed some time to fix.'

He added 'it took him a while to enjoy racing but the step up in trip was a big help.'

Martin later reclaimed Gilberto for E10,561, beating off two other claims.

Joanna Morgan's Scent made all to win the Guillamene Maiden under Wayne Lordan while Ruby Walsh and Willie Mullins combined to land the handicap hurdle with Spiritual Society.
