In-form Pat Flynn saddled three runners for the Seamus Weldon Handicap over a mile and three furlongs at Killarney last evening and victory went to one of his charges, Queen Of Fibres in the hands of Declan McDonogh.
The 8-1 shot stuck to her task well under a determined drive to just hold off the favourite Final Reminder and Eddie Ahern in a tremendous finish. However, there was a sting in the tail for both riders when thay were each handed a three day ban (May 24th-26th inc.) for using their whips with excessive frequency.
'My horses are in very good shape these days. This filly showed great promise in the early days and she's getting good now. Hopefully it will continue,' Flynn said.
'The only place the owner wanted to win was here in Killarney,' stated Jessica Harrington, after Courageous and Barry Geraghty carried the colours of Dublin publican David Lavin to a smooth success in the second division of the McSweeney Arms Maiden Hurdle.
'I was a bit worried as he got a stone bruise a month ago but he did it well in the end. It's been a long wait and soft ground is no good to him,' added the winning trainer.
Tony Mullins saddled the winner of the first division when Leopard Rock, a full brother to stable-companion The Bongo Man, arrived full of running for Charlie Swan to head Bob What over the final flight on his way to victory.
'He can't move on soft ground and I'd say, after maybe another run somewhere, he'll end up in a winners race at Galway,' said Mullins, who also finished the session on a winning note when newcomer The Baltimore Man landed the bumper to provide Pat Murphy with his first success in the plate.
Judge Brendan Sheridan deliberated for several minutes after Provosky (Niall McCullagh) and Molly-O (Fran Berry) flashed past the post together in the Killarney Autos Handicap only to call a dead-heat before Soorah justified odds-on favouritism under Stephen Craine in the next.
