Review MURTAGH PICKS UP TWO DAY SUSPENSION - CURRAGH 20TH AUG

John Murtagh partnered a treble including Group race winners Takali and Golden Silca but also picked up a two day suspension for careless riding.

The Aga Khan was on hand to see Takali gain a hard-earned victory in the Group 2 Royal Whip Stakes, rallying strongly inside the final furlong to deny Molomo by a head.

'The slow pace didn't suit him, and he should make a good four-year-old,' said trainer John Oxx afterwards.

Golden Silca, fourth to Giant's Causeway in the Sussex Stakes, took advantage of a drop in class to land the Group 3 Desmond Stakes.

The Mick Channon-trained filly drew clear in the final furlong to beat Duck Row by 3 1/2L, with the front-running Muakaad a short-head back last of the 3 runners.

The placings remained unaltered after an enquiry into an incident two furlongs out where the winner edged left onto Duck Row.

However Murtagh was found quilty of careless riding, and suspended for two days (August 29 & 31).

Raypour, who acted as pacemaker when fourth to Sinndar in the Budweiser Irish Derby, led under a furlong out to beat Benovia by 1L in the finale.

Affianced (Kevin Manning) came from last to first in the final two furlongs to take the Listed Debutante Fillies Stakes, touching off Sequoyah in the final strides.

'We will have a look at the Moyglare,' said Jim Bolger when asked about future plans for the daughter of Erins Isle.

The Bolger/Manning combination initiated a double earlier when Alfina (9/4-3/1f) showed plenty of courage to hold off the challenge of Warrior Wings by a head in the nursery.

Pat Smullen moved 2 clear of Mick Kinane in the jockeys championship (52/50) after Goldnblues touched off Venetian Pearl in the closing stages of the 2m handicap.

Anna Elise (Tom Queally) showed speed throughout in the 6f handicap, and kept on strongly from the furlong pole to beat Lions Den by 2 1/2L.
