Review CURRAGH 25TH JUN

Kestrel Cross kept the Goffs Challenge at home for the first time in three years and in doing so Kevin Prendergast's colt initiated a 1649/1 treble for his rider Willie Supple.

The 14/1 chance had only shed his maiden tag at the 4th attempt exactly one week ago and the son of Cape Cross made his E30,000 yearling purchase price look cheap as he landed this E76,700 prize.

Supple, who enjoyed many successes with Prendergast in the past, forced his mount to the front in the dying strides to touch off Stan Moore's Encanto by a short head.

Prendergast said in the aftermath, 'he's a solid tough horse who really wants an extra furlong and Willie gave him a good ride. He's been a lucky jockey for me.'

Pat Shanahan's loss (broke his shoulder 2 weeks ago at Navan) proved to be Supple's gain as he combined with Con Collins to triumph in both the 1m and the 1m 2f h'caps.

Signora Rossa held on by a head from the fast finishing Addario in the shorter event whilst it was more clear-cut for Soliza, one and a half length victor of the penultimate contest.

Green Lassy's two subsequent wins had advertised the form of Rich Sense's maiden success and they undoubtedly contributed to Dermot Weld's filly heading the betting for the Apprentice Derby.

Despite a lack of pace in the Derrinstown Stud sponsored-contest, Shane Gorey's mount showed a good burst of speed to settle the issue from the furlong pole.

Weld was particularly pleased for Gorey who he described as 'improving all the time,' whilst Rich Sense is from the family of the stable's Budweiser Irish Derby hope, Grey Swallow.

A morning price gamble was landed in some style when 6/1 shot, Indesatchel (available as long as 20s early on), took the opening maiden for David Wachman under apprentice Michael Cleere.

It was easy to see afterwards why the son of Danehill Dancer generated such market activity as Wachman said 'I had no doubt he'd win as he's a good horse who has always worked well.'

Once previously raced when last of four in a sprint back in April, the colt is a tall raw sort according to his handler who will keep improving and he could now graduate to Listed/Group class.

Serov looked sure to land the sprint h'cap when stealing a march on his rivals from over a furlong out but Pat Delaney's Libras Child came home very strongly to triumph by a length.

Kevin Manning's mount will probably turn out again for the Scurry H'cap on Sunday despite being out of the weights, Delaney reasoning, 'why not when he's in such good form?'

Willie Supple's bid for a four-timer in the last was foiled when his mount, Freud Bacon was beaten 4 1/2L into 2nd by very impressive newcomer, Agenda in the hands of Jamie Spencer.
