Review CORK 16th May

Always Beautiful lived up to the promise of her debut fourth behind Winchester at Leopardstown when she recorded a stylish victory in the 10-furlong Charleville Maiden for trainer David Wachman.

The evens favourite was given a nice tow by stable companion Dress Rehearsal and took over with a furlong and a half to run before going clear to win by one and three-quarter lengths under Wayne Lordan.

Dress Rehearsal stuck to her task really well to stay clear in second, with Woodland Beauty coming out of the pack to claim third.

La Sylvia showed plenty of early zip to dominate the five-furlong Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden from start to finish.

Trained by the legendary Monksfield's handler Des McDonogh, La Sylvia (7-2) was winning for the first time at the seventh attempt and seemed to relish the sharp five after not quite getting home when third at Navan.

Fran Berry kept her up to her work when the challengers arrived, but she was not hard pressed to hold them off to win by three-quarters of a length from favourite Epic Odyssey.

A blanket could have been thrown over the first seven home in the five-furlong Ballyclough Handicap and it was 20-1 shot Grigorovitch who got the nod from the judge.

Peak District looked to have the call entering the final furlong, but he was swamped close home.

Michael Cleere drove the Liam McAteer-trained Grigorovitch through on the far side to beat Fly By Magic and Flash McGahon by a short head and a head.

The seven-furlong Tallow Handicap looked competitive on paper, but Bentesina (10-1) cleared away in the final stages to score in impressive fashion.

Claimer Ben Curtis was on the heels of the leaders a quarter of a mile out on John Kiely's six-year-old, who burst through to put the race to bed quickly and beat Six Of Hearts by three and a half lengths.
