Review BALLINROBE 26TH SEP

Declan McDonogh's remarkable run of form continued as he moved to 79 for the season with a double at Ballinrobe on Tuesday.

Osprey View got the ball rolling in the second division of the Moylough Concrete Handicap when coming with a strong run in the final furlong to land the spoils.

Merlins Profit looked in control when kicking for home two furlongs out but was wore down by Osprey View as the Kevin Prendergast-trained gelding got up by three-parts-of-a-length close home.

McDonogh completed the brace in good style when Nakiska stamped her authority on the JJ Burke Peugeot & Isuzu Race with a seven-length success.

The Michael Grassick-trained filly pulled clear of her field two furlongs out and kept on strongly all the way to the line.

'It was good to win again with her. The ground is the key with her, she needs it soft. The trainer also needed a winner!' said Grassick.

'We'll look for a race in Italy or Germany for her to try and pick up some blacktype.'

Total Victory landed a nice gamble when cruising to success in the Cummins Homevalue Hardware Handicap. Tom Hogan's charge was backed from 6/1 in the morning and eventually went off 3/1f.

Fran Berry kicked for home half a mile out on the colt and soon went clear. He could afford to ease down in the final furlong for a six-length victory.

'Fran's wing mirrors must have got fogged up!' quipped Hogan. 'He's a good horse but can be a bit lazy and looks around a bit, that's why he had the cheekpieces on.'

'He'll probably get a hike from the handicapper for that and I could send him over hurdles now.'

Keith Maher stepped in for a winning spare when Pesante flashed home on the outside to cause a 20/1 shock in the first division of the Moylough Concrete Handicap.

Akasian galloped his rivals into submission when making all and holding the late challenge of Glenfolan by two lengths in the John McMahon Handicap Chase.

'Up to today I thought he wanted firm ground,' revealed winning trainer Pat Hughes. 'He'll keep chasing and go for another race in a month or so.'

Martin Ferris, who suffered a fall from Judy's Home Valley in the race, was taken to Castlebar Hospital for precautionary x-rays on his neck and back.

Native Caroline proved game in the finish when holding on in the Frank Moran Memorial Maiden Hurdle while Bawn Og completed a hat-trick with a fine front-running performance in the Blue Thunder Fast Foods Claremorris Handicap Hurdle.
