Meany strikes with another big-priced winner Paddy Meany got himself back amongst the winners at Gowran last Sunday, with 11/1 chance Enough Is Enough, and the Kilkenny handler was quickly back at the number one with Fu's Island, the 14/1 victor of the concluding Irish Stallion Farms E.B.F. Mares Flat Race at Limerick. This daughter of Turtle Island made an encouraging debut at Gowran just over a fortnight back, and here under John O'Meara (himself enjoying a good run) she came through with her run from before the straight after getting a patient steer. Ridden to lead over two furlongs out, Fu's Island stayed on strongly from over a furlong out to defeat Present Flower by six lengths. "She had a good first run and was only beaten six lengths at Gowran and it brought her on a fair bit," said Meany. "I've nothing in mind but she's a big filly and we might now wait for a bit of an ease before going for a winners' bumper." The Stewards received a report from Mr. P.L. Malone , Turf Club Clerk of the Scales, regarding the fact that Mr P.F. Casey , rider of Present Flower , weighed in at 1.8 lbs overweight. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned, who stated that he drank some water after weighing out and this may have accounted for his overweight on weighing-in. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that rider name was in breach of Rule 231 and they therefore suspended him for one race day. (TW & EM)
