McManus sponsors new jockeys´ series

A 14 race series for claiming riders, jointly sponsored by J P McManus´ Martinstown Stud and the INHSC, was unveiled today by the Turf Club.

The ´Martinstown Opportunity Series´ begins at Down Royal on December 26, and will culminate in a final at the Punchestown Festival next May. The new series will operate on a points system, with the winner of each race awarded 10 points, with 7, 5, 3 and 1 respectively for placings down to fifth.

There will be a trophy for the winning rider, while trainers will also compete for a trophy with points awarded on the same basis.

Roy Craigie, Senior Steward of the INHS Committee welcomed the series saying, ´We would like to thank Martinstown Stud for it´s support of this exciting series. The NH Stewards recognise the importance of encouraging young riders and hope, with the support of trainers and owners, the series will prove a big success and be continued for many years to come.´
