McGuinness and Sherry get Dundalk's 3rd in steward's room There was a steward's enquiry into possible interference between the first two home in the BK Forklifts Handicap. Trump Card passed the post in front but second home Specific Gravity was awarded the race in the third event at Dundalk. Trump Card settled behind the leaders and he was ridden to challenge two furlongs out. He was on terms a furlong out, but soon gained a narrow lead. However, he drifted right under pressure, before kept on well in the closing stages. For trainer Ado McGuinness and young rider Thomas Sherry meanwhile, Specific Gravity chased the leaders, and he was fourth halfway. He improved to dispute two furlongs out, and soon ridden he was narrowly headed inside the final furlong. He appeared held when carried right in the closing stages. A head split them at the line. For Dubliner Thomas Sherry this was a second winner. He is a RACE graduate. Sherry rode his first winner on Aggression here last November. C. O'Donoghue, rider of You Will Do For Me (USA) trained by P.D. Deegan, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount finished distressed. The Stewards enquired into possible interference in the closing stages of this race involving Specific Gravity (FR), ridden by T.M. Sherry, placed second and Trump Card, ridden by W.J. Lee, placed first, where it appeared that Specific Gravity was bumped into in the straight and carried wide near the line. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned in the presence of Adrian McGuinness, trainer and master of T.M. Sherry. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were satisfied that Trump Card had caused interference and in doing so had improved his finishing position in relation to Specific Gravity. The Stewards therefore reversed the placings of the first two horses and took no further action. The result now reads; First Specific Gravity, Second Trump Card, Third Dixie Highway, Fourth Nulife, Fifth Sinndar Sandy, Sixth Aegeus. (AM & EM)
