Mauiewowie impressive on debut at Naas © Photo Healy Racing
Mauiewowie became the latest winning debutant for the Ger Lyons stable when making an impressive start in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden at Naas.
The daughter of Night Of Thunder was away smartly under Colin Keane, soon tracking the odds on favourite Silmaniya
The latter appeared to be travelling easily 2f out but Keane had yet to ask his mount for an effort as he slipstreamed Ben Coen on the Aga Khan owned filly.
As Silmaniya came under pressure inside the last furlong, Mauiewowie moved alongside going easily and once Keane pressed the button she quickened up smartly to go right away.
Silmaniya kept on for second, while the Willie McCreery newcomer Queen Of Ours stayed on to fill third spot under Billy Lee.
“She's a nice filly and we liked her,” said Lyons.
“We're not surprised by that, she has entries. She had sore shins and stuff and we just gave her a chance.
“She was one that I was contemplating starting off in a stakes race but I said I would do that if I was looking for place money but I know she's a stakes filly.
“Hopefully she could be a filly for something like the Cheveley Park, in time. We like her a lot and have done from the start.”
