"I didn't expect her to get in today and was looking at Listowel. The young lad (Sean Davis) was under strict instructions not to hit her, and he was very balanced and gave her a good ride," said Donal Kinsella after Maudlin Magdalen won the concluding Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund 'Northfields' Handicap at the Curragh.
The successful 25/1 shot, only had a couple below her in the weights, and she made use of her attractive impost, coming out best in a blanket finish to get the upper hand on Breathe Easy by a head.
Not much more than a length and half split the first seven home, whilst well-backed favourite Savannah Storm could manage no better than eighteenth place.
"We might try to get some black type with her in a Group 3 at Gowran Park next Sunday," added Kinsella.
The Stewards requested a report from Donal Kinsella, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Maudlin Magdalen, placed first, as compared with its recent form.
The trainer reported that this filly stopped quickly in Dundalk last time and subsequently won a schooling race in the meantime and seemed to return to form today. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the contents of the report.
