Cisco Disco (11/4 favourite) delivered a maiden success at the seventh time of asking in the www.swordsecurity.com Nursery Handicap at Galway.
For the Sunday Racing Club and the Grey Lady Racing Syndicate, Ronan Whelan did the steering on this Elzaam gelding.
Trained by Jack Davison, Cisco Disco went right from the stalls and bumped with a rival.
Soon racing in mid-division, the victor was pushed along in sixth at the halfway stage.
Ridden into third two furlongs out, the juvenile, from the family of Bahamian Bounty, challenged over a furlong out. Leading in the final two hundred yards he kept on well in the closing stages to beat Speedy Pix by a length and a half.
“He’s improving with every run and the head-gear helps him to concentrate as much as anything else,” reported Whelan.
“He’s a long angular horse that will improve with time.”
D. McMonagle, rider of What Adaay (GB) trained by Patrick Martin, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount finished lame.
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined What Adaay (GB), trained by Patrick Martin, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be lame on her left hind post race.
The Stewards interviewed John C. McConnell, trainer, in relation to the fact that five of his runners ran today in colours contrary to those on the race card. Evidence was heard from the trainer concerned who stated that the colour bag had been inadvertently left behind in his stable yard. Having considered the evidence, the Stewards advised Mr. McConnell to exercise greater care in meeting his obligations in future.
