So Long Marianne swooped inside the final furlong to make a winning debut in the six furlong maiden at Naas this afternoon.
The Willie McCreery-trained filly was sent to post the 5/2 joint-favourite on her racecourse bow and travelled sweetly behind the leaders in the early stages.
Billy Lee asked his mount to pick up inside the final furlong and she found another gear to register a length-and-a-quarter success.
The daughter of Acclamation cost €100,000 as a yearling and is out of the listed placed Pearl Sea.
“She's a grand filly. I bought her in the sales last year and I've always liked the family,” said McCreery.
“She's a big honest filly. The ground wouldn't be ideal for her but it was nice to get her started the way she did it.
“We'll see where we go now and she wouldn't mind another furlong. She's very easy to train.”
