Dermot Weld's Malayan ground out victory in the juvenile auction series race at Roscommon to supplement recent Ballybrit gains.

The 6/5 favourite collared Nectaris coming to the two pole and attempted to assert approaching the final furlong.

She moved a couple of lengths in front in the closing stages, but idled as Believe In Science (6/1) finished well in second to get to within half a length at the winning post.

The form of Malayan's victory in Galway was boosted half an hour earlier on this card when runner-up Pride Of Derry took the opener.

Jockey Colin Keane said: “She's an improving filly and she probably doesn't do a whole pile when she gets there.

“She travels well, quickens up for a few strides and then puts on the brake. She's probably value for a bit more than the winning margin.

“I'd say you might see a better filly in a better race where they can lead her for longer. It's nice to win on her again.”
