Magnor Glory wins on chase debut Four-time hurdle winner Magnor Glory (6/1) won well on his fences debut today, landing Ballinrobe's Burleigh Accountancy Group Beginners Chase for trainer Terence O'Brien and jockey John Shinnick. The Fame And Glory gelding had won a graded Listowel festival hurdle in 2022 and while he hadn't raced since last July, today reappeared in fine shape, arriving from behind the leaders to lead on landing at the final fence, beating Maidenstreetprince by 5.5 lengths. Afterwards Shinnick said “we were worried about how he would take to chasing but it was time to give it a try and he seemed to love it. I wasn't too worried about being forward on the first lap, I just wanted to get him jumping. "As it turned out, I got a grand run down the inside and it just seemed to happen for me. He had plenty in the tank going into the last few fences. The only worry was the loose horse when I was coming down to the last, but when I jumped that I knew I was going to be away because I had plenty of horse under me.” He added "Terence just said if it's not happening, mind him and get him around safely and if it is happening, work away. When you're riding with those instructions you're under no pressure. "Terence and myself had a good time last season and it's great to get one on the board already. I've four winners left on my claim." Quotes from Mark Nunan
