Maggie beats the boys in Dundalk opener The only mare in the line-up Maggie Thunder beat the boys in the Hollywoodbets Horse Racing and Sports Betting Handicap at Dundalk. On winter series awards day at the County Louth venue, top jockey over the last few months on the all-weather, Chris Hayes, did the steering for Paddy Hassett. The successful daughter of Alhebayeb was attaining a third win over the sprint trip at Dundalk, and the well-supported 3/1 chance got it done by half a length from Poet’s Pride. Favourite Big Gossey finished fifth of the six, after doing his chances no good at all with a poor break. “That was nice. I rode her a few starts back and I was keen to get on her again,” reported Hayes. “Declan (McDonogh) had won on her and had been riding her. It's early in the season and it was probably a couple of pounds lower than he wanted to be doing this early so I was thankful to get back on her. “I thought she showed a good willing attitude and it was a nice performance. Hopefully she can improve from it.” (GC & EM)
