Colm Murphy reports Macs Charm on target to make his seasonal reappearance in the €100,000 Bar One Racing Troytown Handicap Chase at Navan next Sunday.
The son of Le Fou completed a hat-trick over hurdles early last year and took well to fences last season signing off by beating Sir Bob off topweight in a 3m1f handicap chase at Fairyhouse on Easter Monday.
That form received a timely boosted when the runner-up landed the Cork Grand National earlier this month and Macs Charm is currently allotted 10st11lb in the Troytown with his rating of 143.
“All going well he’ll go there. I’d love to have had a run into him before going there especially over three miles and last year he improved a lot from his first run but he’s as ready as we can have him without a run,” said the Gorey trainer.
“We’re hoping for a nice run and we’ll see where we are going after that.
“He seems to relish soft ground and we’re hoping it will keep raining for another week. He’s one of those horses that can go on unraceable ground.”
Murphy added, “He’s only an eight-year-old, lightly raced and should still be improving but the ground is the biggest key to him.”
