The Next Racing Festival July 11th to 14th Handicap went to the Ger Lyons trained Trans City with Keagan Latham aboard at the odds of 9/2.
Although the joint most inexperienced horse in the race with only four runs to his name, the Trans Island gelding didn't let that stop him, racing in rear before making good progress to led a furlong from home, staying on well under pressure to beat the 10/3fav Spin of a Coin by a length and a quarter at the finish.
The winner's form so far this season, although on the all-weather, looked good enough to win this after being caught close home on his last start at Dundalk by Cheers Buddy and before that finishing fourth on his seasonal reapperance behind Gleadhradh.
"He is an improving horse, who will give his owners plenty of fun before being one for the jumping boys eventually," the assistant trainer Shane Lyons said after the race.
Gary Carroll, rider of Beauty Express who finished 10th, was given a two day ban by the stewards, for careless riding.
