Eddie Lynam’s ‘dominance’ of Irish Flat racing thus far in 2012 continued in the second race at Dundalk’s opening meeting this evening when his Akasara completed a double for the trainer in the Dundalk Winter Racing Handicap.
The son of King’s Best was produced by jockey Emmet McNamara to lead a furlong out before staying on well for a comfortable win over Black N Brew with Lynam’s other runner in the race Spin Of A Coin finishing third.
Lynam’s first and third placed horses in the race added to a 1-2-4 for the trainer in the opening race of 2012, won by his Muck’N’Brass.
Afterwards Lynam said “Spin Of A Coin (third placed) has been a little bit unlucky several times but hopefully there’s a day in him yet. Akasaka lost his way a bit so we gave him a break and he has come back well. Joseph O’Brien always liked him and Emmet (McNamara) said he did it well tonight.
Reflecting the concerns of ‘the Irish trainer’ in 2012, Lynam added “I had 12 horses entered here tonight and thankfully only one got balloted out. Of the 11 horses declared to run, only one is owned by an outside owner, outside of myself and my wife Aileen.”
