Lucid Dreams has proved a great servant to connections since making a belated debut last spring winning six times and only out of the money once in 15 starts, and trainer John Ryan is hoping for further glory at the upcoming Dublin Racing Festival.
The Arcadio gelding was an eight-year-old when first setting foot on a track but has notched up six wins, evenly divided between hurdles and fences, in the space of just over seven months.
He’s also filled the places in a number of Graded races and beat all bar the front-running Uncle Phil last time in the €100,000 SBK Dan & Joan Moore Memorial Handicap Chase at Fairyhouse.
Lucid Dreams put in a rare below par effort before that when trailing behind Gaelic Warrior in the Grade 1 Guinness Faugheen Novice Chase at the Limerick Christmas meeting but there was a reason as Ryan explained.
"He had a sore withers after his run in Limerick which sickened him and it was still a small bit sore in Fairyhouse, although I couldn't have been happier with his run (in the Dan Moore).
“The wither is perfect now and he is bouncing again.”
The Templemore trainer added, "We are hoping for a big run in Leopardstown in either the Leopardstown Handicap Chase (2m5f) or a €100,000 race (Sandyford Handicap Chase) over 2m1f.
“The handicapper hasn't been too hard on him in giving him only 3lb.
"He is having some year, is only improving and it is hard to believe it is only his first full season in training. There is a tale to be told with him yet."
