Long Strand Lasts Longest The minimum margin split the first two home in the second last race and there was another thrilling conclusion thirty five minutes later in the bumper when Long Strand just got the better of the favourite, Roches Point. Colm Sharkey rode this fellow for Charlie Swan and he was vindicating the promise he displayed at this venue when second on his debut a fortnight ago. Swan commented: "I was a bit disappointed he didn't win first time out, he works very well at home. He should make a real nice chaser in time, being by Saddlers' Hall, as they don't come to themselves until later on and he'll probably be for sale." (EM)
