Jessica Harrington's Loch Tay was professional on testing ground ground he reportedly didn't enjoy in the opening Irish EBF Median Sires Series Race over an extended seven furlongs at Roscommon.
This Bated Breath colt hasn't been out since taking the runner-up berth on debut at Gowran Park in June.
He soon tracked Raven Darkholme who was bustled up to lead by Wayne Hassett. Shane Foley then set him on approaching the two pole and the pair began to wind up the pressure on their rivals. Majestic Wave (10/3) and Ronan Whelan went after them a furlong and a-half down, but were clearly outgunned in the final furlong as Loch Tay scored by four and a-half lengths at 7/2. Think About It (easy-to-back 5/2 joint favourite) couldn't land a blow in third, beaten over nine lengths by the winner.
Assistant trainer, and owner, Kate Harrington said: “I'm delighted with him. We gave him plenty of time after Gowran as he just kept growing on us, I think he's grown about two inches.
“He was only just ready to start back today and he did it nicely.
“I was very concerned about the ground and Shane said he absolutely hated it, but his class got him through.
“He's a big, strong horse and he's got some nice entries for (Irish) Champions Weekend. We'll just see how he comes out of this and see whether we take them up or not. He's very nice.”
Loch Tay is entered in a Group 2 (at Leopardstown) and a Group 1 (at Curragh) over Irish Champions Weekend.
Loch Tay can be found in the central highlands of Scotland.
