Lightening comes home Fast for Keane/Lyons Lightening Fast put a disappointing run at Royal Ascot last month behind him to gain a thrilling win in the Clayton Hotel Leopardstown Handicap. The son of Frankel was successful over a mile at Navan earlier this season but finished down the field in the Britannia at Ascot. Colin Keane elected to hold the 7/2 chance up before asking for an effort in the straight. Ontheiflist looked set to score when two lengths clear inside the final furlong but Lightening Fast dug deep when challenging between horses and got up in the shadow of the post. The Ger Lyons-trained colt had a neck to spare over I’m So Fancy, with Ontheiflist just a head further away in third. Lyons said, “A mile is his trip at the minute, very much like his mother. Just draw a line through Ascot for every one of mine. I started watching it on the couch and ended up under the couch watching it! “That’s a nice pot for a three-year-old. We debated whether we would run him or not as his work hasn’t been great. I thought Colin was exceptional on him, and it will be more of the same for the minute.”
