Off a 242 day break Prisoner’s Dilemma struck on his first attempt outside maiden company, in the Sobac Healthy Soil Healthy Animal www.soil.ie Handicap at Naas.
Fitted with a tongue-strap for the initial occasion, 18/1 shot Prisoner’s Dilemma came home best under Donagh O’Connor to beat favourite Gee Rex by three parts of a length.
It was half a length then to Tony The Gent in third, whilst at 100/1 Eastern Racer delighted anyone ‘on’ each-way, finishing fourth of the sixteen.
“We always thought he was a smart horse last year and the ground was too soft for him a few times,” said winning trainer Johnny Levins.
“His work was very good but like most of mine I did expect him to need a run.
“Naas is a lovely track and they are upping their standards all the time. Even the simple things like replacing divots between races. I don’t think I’ve seen that on many tracks in Ireland and it’s something that should always be done.”
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Poet's Pride (GB), trained by David Marnane, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be slightly lame post race.
At the request of the Stewards, W.J. Lee, rider of Poet's Pride (GB), trained by David Marnane, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount hung right in the straight and was eased but did not appear to show any abnormality when cantering back to the parade ring.
