Later first entry stage for Irish classics The initial entry stage for the first four Irish Classics of 2005 closes next Wednesday, September 1.For the first time, entries will close for the Boylesports Irish 2000 Guineas, Boylesports Irish 1000 Guineas, Budweiser Irish Derby and Darley Irish Oaks towards the end of a horse´s two year old career. Previously entries closed in April before most two year olds had an opportunity to race.Curragh Racecourse Manager, Paul Hensey commented ´We received representations from a number of owners and trainers that the previous entry stage was too early in a horse´s career and, following consultations with HRI, we agreed to move the entry date back to September 1st. Hopefully this will give trainers a greater opportunity to assess the merits of their two year olds prior to making entries for the following years´ Classics´.HRI Director of Racing, Jason Morris stated ´This year´s Irish Classics have been very strong and the prize money for these races next year will total EUR2.5 million. I am confident that the later entry date will help ensure the highest quality entries for each of these races´.In addition to the entry stage on Wednesday September 1st, there will be a second entry stage for these races on March 2nd 2005, with a supplementary stage five days before each race.
