Lass too strong for hotpot Emery The Denis Hogan-trained Foxy Lass got on top in the closing stages to upset hotpot Azua Emery in the opener at Ballinrobe this afternoon. Gigginstown's French import was sent off 1/2 favourite on her first outing for Gordon Elliott and appeared set to strike turning for home. Having duelled with 14/1 shot Foxy Lass for the lead throughout she went a length up early in the straight but then started to wander a bit under pressure. Foxy Lass, making her third start over hurdles, stuck to her task well and got to the front close home for a half length success under her trainer/jockey. "She improved no end from Listowel but I hadn't got a chance to gallop her since, I knew she was sharper but I didn't think she'd find that much improvement," said Hogan. "She had the experience and they have to be jumped - she's game too. "The syndicate are from all over the country. "They didn't have a massive budget and they went to Ascot sales. Colm Sharkey recommended this one out of Willie Haggas'. "She only cost three and a half grand. I was willing to pay five for her on the day. "I couldn't be happier for them.
