Ray Cody was happy to be proven wrong when his promising filly Lady Lunette won the concluding contest at the Curragh, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF (Fillies) Handicap.
The Dunnamaggin Co Kilkenny handler thought the handicapper had over-reacted to the Buratino filly's maiden win at Gowran but Dylan Browne McMonagle brought her from mid-division to launch her challenge in the final furlong and she got up close home to beat Bella Blue Eyes and Kayhana by half-a-length and a neck.
It was a double for the winning rider after Navassa Island in the opener.
“I'm thrilled with her. She got 12lb for winning in Gowran, which I thought was very harsh and I wasn't too sure whether she'd be up to that mark,” said Cody.
“She's a progressive, she's a big raw filly. I just didn't know if she'd be good enough today but I'm thrilled with her, she got a brilliant.
“That was a proper race, I think it was a very good fillies handicap. There were no hiding places and I'm over the moon.
“She's next year's filly. We might give her on more run, we'll see. She's a big raw, tall filly and I think she's a nicely filly going forward.”
