Jockey Katie Walsh who recorded a double on Sunday at Downpatrick was back in the winner’s enclosure when winning the ‘Sharon Shannon Big Band’ Handicap aboard Collingwood who is trained by her father Ted Walsh.
Walsh who settled her mount in rear came with her challenge on the outer travelling well and moved through to pick up the lead inside the final furlong.
The pair kept on strongly on the run-in to score by a length.
Winning trainer Walsh said afterwards: “That was Katie’s first win on the flat against the professionals.”
“We’ll come back for the big seven furlong handicap on Champion Stakes day if he gets in.”
“The firm ground is really the key to him, they went no pace the last day he ran at the Curragh.”
