Jpevie gained an overdue win when taking the claiming maiden at Bellewstown in good style.

The colt was produced to lead a furlong-and-a-half out by Gary Carroll in the mile contest.

John McConnell 's charge stuck on well inside the final furlong to post a three-and-a-quarter length verdict over Montrel

5/2 favourite Caliente couldn't launch a challenge and stayed on late to take third.

The winner had been placed on four previous occasions including two runner-up efforts this season.

He was supported on course from 4/1 into 3/1, going off the second choice in the market.

"He deserved that and has hardly run a bad race," said McConnell.

"Maybe the tongue-tie helped him as he's made some noises before. It probably wasn't the greatest of races but he won well.

"A lot of them seemed to fall apart in front of him. We think he's better on better ground."

Emmet McNamara carried a pound overweight on the runner-up Montrel. There were no claims made in the race.
