J.P. McManus' Galileo-sired Walk Me Home overcame '0000' form-figures when causing an 11/1 upset in the opening division of the Bann Handicap Hurdle at Wexford today, scoring for trainer Gavin Cromwell and jockey Jody McGarvey.
Walk Me Home's jumps-bred dam Sway won eight races over hurdles and fences but was nonetheless upgraded to visit Galileo in 2014, with daughter Walk Me Home born the following May.
Walk Me Home was beaten 45L, 59L, 57L and 41L on each of her previous four starts but today, on her first start since February and stepping up to three miles for the first time, comfortably scored a seven lengths win from front-running Rudy Catrail
Champion Hurdle winner Cromwell's previous win was with 20/1 chance Whirling Dervish at Kilbeggan on Saturday and following Walk Me Home's surprise success, he reported “her jumping has been very poor all along but she jumped well today.
"Some horses take to these padded hurdles and others don't. When I saw her jumping the first I was delighted with her. It is grand, it wasn't a great race and she floated around on that ground. We will have a look now and see what there is for her."
