The Ross Golf Club Maiden Hurdle caused a shock when 16/1 shot Island Oscar from the Paul Roche stable came home in front.
The Oscar gelding took a keen hold early and Shay Barry took him to front at the second last.
The pair kept on well from the last to hold off market principles Far Away So Close and Spanish Auriga by a length and a quarter.
A delighted Roche said afterwards: “He has been disappointing we brought him to England twice to win a bumper and he was beaten twice so he’s paid back his fare now.”
“He jumps and well and he liked that ground most horses by Oscar do. Hopefully we’ll be able to pick up another one now.”
