Dermot Weld's Casual Conquent justified 8/13 favouritism when winning the Group 2 Royal Whip Stakes at The Curragh today, booking the colt a place in the Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on September 5.
The son of Hernando did need to work to eventually see off the challenge of Curtain Call by a length and a quarter.
Afterwards Weld reported “Casual Conquest did that nicely as the runner-up is a decent horse. Casual Conquest is ideally suited by soft ground but extremes of ground are not for him - he has now won one Group 1 and two Group races.”
He added “we'll reflect on his next target but the Irish Champion Stakes is his most likely port of call.”
